INNOVATION

FOR THE

ELDERLY

Now accepting applications from remote monitoring startups

Background

The world is ageing. Today, more and more elderly people prefer to grow old at home, rather than in institutions. This will require greater services designed for the elderly in their own residences, particularly within home-care services.

These processes pose a big opportunity for entrepreneurs and innovators to come up with creative ideas and the technological platforms to implement them. Such implementations have the potential to generate both meaningful impact and powerful business growth.

Launched in 2017, Æon is a TechForGood initiative. It supports industry organizations in identifying and communicating their innovation needs for the aging population. TechForGood then maps and selects the most relevant technologies to address them, and facilitates pilots and joint implementation projects.

Æon also offers support in business growth to startups that focus on the aging population needs.

Our work adheres to impact KPI measurement and is fully aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Our work and the SDGs

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world's best plan to build a better world for people and our planet by 2030. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the SDGs are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the environment.

The 2030 Agenda’ transformational vision and the pledge to “leave no one behind” means that development agendas must include all persons, of all ages. Implementation of all sustainable development goals must be based on equality, social justice and human dignity across the life course and recognize that older persons have an equal right to development.

The unprecedented rapid growth in the numbers of older persons worldwide is resulting in a situation where, by 2050, almost 22% of the world population will be over the age of 60. This demographic trend is becoming a significant issue for governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and communities, particularly since older persons are mostly a neglected group, invisible to those who promote economic and social development.
